Lettuce Wraps

This recipe was something I came up with recently, after seeing a show on TV at the dentist's waiting room. They made something similar in rice paper, Vietnamese style. This dish is something we do not normally get vegetarian except for the lettuce part. However, I decided to modify the filling a bit to make it tasty and nutritious at the same time.

I love this recipe because it is protein packed and full of vitamins to keep you going throughout the day...

Ingredients:
About 6-7 sheets of lettuce (DO NOT CUT INTO ANY SHREDS OR WHATEVER, JUST LEAVE IT AS A SHEET)
1/4 cup bean sprouts (Tauge: Chinese, kecembah: Malay), boiled a little first before use
1/4 cup cabbage, shredded
1/4 cup bell peppers (capsicum), cut into juliennes
1/4 cup carrot, peeled and grated
1/4 cup mock chicken or beancurd (tofu), cut thinly and grilled before use
2 tbsp spring onions, chopped

Sauce:
3 tbsp sweet black sauce (kecap manis: Malay)
1 tbsp light soy sauce/dark soy sauce
Pinch of mushroom seasoning
Little chilli garlic sauce

Method:
1. Mix all the ingredients for the sauce and keep aside.
2. Mix all the ingredients for the wraps except for lettuce into the mixing bowl.
3. In each sheet of lettuce, put some of the stuffing and sprinkle some sauce.
4. Roll the lettuce up into wraps and serve with the left over sauce.
